If you have been reading the blogs or looked at your Walgreens insert today, you know what they are starting a new rewards program this week called Balance Rewards. Here is the basic details as outlined in the ad and what I can find online.
1. You will need a loyalty card and signup is free. You will earn points for your purchases including 500 points for every prescription or immunization. Points on thousands of items each week. Points for every mile you Walk with Walgreens. (This is their online walking program that in the past you logged your walks/steps and you unlocked coupons, etc. I signed up awhile ago, but haven’t been logging my walks, but will probably start doing so soon. Looks like when you register for the Walk with Walgreens program you put your Rewards card number in, if you registered earlier it should be an option to add it in your profile. You will earn 10 points for each mile/2000 steps you walk up to 100 miles per month.)
2. Okay, what is the value of those points?
5,000 points = $5 reward
10,000 points = $10 reward
18,000 points = $20
30,000 points = $35
40,000 points = $50
(Looks like there is a slight bonus for racking up the points and not spending them right off, interesting.)
“Note: Points expire 36 months from the day you earn them, but they expire sooner if you don’t have any account activity for 6 months. Be sure to watch these dates closely so you don’t lose out on the points you’ve earned.”
Looks like AARP members get some added point collection also, so you may want to link you AARP membership card also.
3. You can signup online or by calling 855-225-9225 or at your local store.
Small Print at bottom of ad
“Due to state and federal laws, points cannot be earned on some items. Points will not be awarded to anyone who currently is or was at any time in 6 months prior to purchasing Pharmacy items covered by Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare or other government funded healthcare program. Pharmacy items must be purchased at participating Walgreens Drugstore, Rxpress, Duane Reade or Walgreens Pharmacy locations (“Participating stores”) to earn points. Excludes pharmacy items purchased from AR, NJ or NY pharmacies and prescriptions transferred to a participating store located in AL, MS, OR or PR. For terms and conditions, visit Walgreens.com/balance.

Still don’t see how I go to a store and get a card after I have registered online, but I guess the cashier should know how to do it. Will be trying it out this week. Let us know how this works for you. We are all going to be trying to learn this at the same time and can use all the hints we can get!
